New Skate Game Will Require a Constant Internet Connection

Full Circle, the developer behind the reboot of Skate, has confirmed that the game will require a constant internet connection to play. This announcement came through a new developer blog series called The Grind, where the team also reiterated that the early access version of the game is planned for release in late 2025. In the blog, the developers stated:
"We are still aiming to launch early access in late 2025."
The team explained that their vision for Skate involves creating a dynamic and evolving open-world skating experience, centered around the fictional city of San Vansterdam. According to the developers, the early access launch is only the beginning, with continuous updates, new content, and improvements planned over time based on player feedback.

Always Online and Cross-Play Confirmed

In the FAQ section of the blog, it was confirmed that Skate will support cross-play across platforms. Additionally, any in-game currency purchased during the current playtests will carry over into the early access launch.
When asked about the possibility of an offline mode, the developers gave a clear answer:
"The simple answer is no. The game and city have been designed to be a living, breathing, and ever-evolving skateboarding world. You’ll witness large-scale changes like the gradual evolution of the city, live events, and ongoing in-game activities. To achieve this vision, a permanent online connection is essential. If you have participated in our playtests, this shouldn’t come as a surprise."

Background on the Skate Reboot

Skate was officially announced in June 2020, marking a significant moment for EA by setting a record for user engagement on the company’s official Twitter account. The reboot is the first project from Full Circle, a new studio led by Daniel McCulloch, former head of Xbox Live. Before joining Full Circle in 2020, McCulloch spent 15 years in various leadership roles within Microsoft’s gaming division.
As excitement builds for Skate’s early access release, players can expect a continually evolving skateboarding world designed to keep the experience fresh and dynamic.
