The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster Took Four Years to Develop

According to the latest report from GamingBolt, Bethesda has recently published a statement expressing gratitude for the overwhelming fan support received for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Along with thanking players for the game's early success, Bethesda shared some interesting insights about the remaster project.

A Remaster, Not a Remake

Bethesda emphasized that while Oblivion Remastered features significant changes and visual improvements over the original 2006 version, it is not considered a remake. The company clarified:
"When we started this project back in 2021, our goal was to breathe new life into a title that paved the way for many of our later games. We never intended to remake it. We simply wanted to remaster it, allowing fans to experience the game as they remember it, but with modern visual quality."

Collaboration with Virtuos and Technical Achievements

Bethesda also thanked the Virtuos team for their significant role in developing the remaster. The publisher admitted that they had never worked on a restoration project of such scale before, involving complete overhauls of art assets, animations, visual effects, and world environments.
In their statement, Bethesda added:
"We were fortunate to collaborate with an incredible partner like Virtuos. Although we had experience with previous collaborations, we had never attempted something of this magnitude—rebuilding nearly all artistic elements, animations, effects, and the entire world."

Gameplay Enhancements While Preserving the Core Experience

Bethesda detailed some of the gameplay improvements in the remaster, mentioning updates to systems such as leveling to ensure smoother and more balanced progression. They stressed the importance of maintaining the original game's spirit:
"The gameplay systems have been enhanced to feel better, such as refining the leveling systems for a more balanced progression. Every aspect of the game has been upgraded carefully. However, it was crucial for us not to alter the core essence—this is still a game from its original era and should feel like it."
Bethesda concluded the statement by expressing gratitude toward fans:
"We cannot thank you enough for your continuous support over the years. With this remaster, we hope that no matter who you are, when you emerge from the Imperial Sewers, it feels just as magical as the first time."

Launch and Availability

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was officially released earlier this week for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at a price of $50. Additionally, Xbox Game Pass subscribers on console and PC have access to the game at no additional cost.
